Exampled here is the redesign of SETS 102.1 Radio Station logo to the new KPRI Authentic Rock. The original had elements for a (set) type of standard - the stations' format was to play "Sets" of music without breaking for advertising.
The new requirements for the logo had to envision a newer cutting edge "Rock" look to the Station. This was to coincide with the new format and enthusiasm of a modern rock radio station. They also wanted the color scheme to be simpler, with reproduction values in mind.
Original ideas incorporated a guitar (the station's owner is an avid guitar collector - the we guitar used is a Stevie Ray Vaughn Stratocaster).
It was noted however, even though the design had a distinctive"look and feel" It was, too long, or a little bit too rocky to be acceptable. It was felt that only the most ardent fan of rock would "get" the guitar symbolis.
The final approach was in a wedge shape utilizing colors which could be reproduced by any printer in any format. Shown are some of the variations proposed. (The final is the second - center - from the top row).
Was it worth it? The radio station were very pleased and have had overwhelming response to the new "look".
